Difference Between Stretching and Strengthening

In my years of working as a Physical Therapist, I notice that the majority of people don't really understand the difference between stretching and strengthening. Do you?

Stretching relaxes muscles and elongates them. Strengthening contracts, tightens and shortens muscles.

Stretching improves mobility and flexibility. Strengthening improves the strength and endurance of a muscle.

Stretching exercises are held for 15-30 seconds and repeated 2-3 times each. Strengthening exercises will use resistive band, weights or machines and are taken through the motion without holding at end range. Strengthening exercises are performed at higher repetitions (10-30 reps) to increase the endurance of a muscle.
