How to get back into shape after a c section

I have had three c sections and before I became pregnant with my third son I had spent a great deal of time losing the weight from my second child(70 lbs.) so I was already in good shape. I think it helps to be in good shape and exercise through out pregnancy,of course there are limitations but because a c section is a longer recovery than a natural birth our bodies tend to take a little longer to get back into shape.
Staying in shape and strong during pregnancy is the first recommendation and secondly as soon as a women gets permission from her doctor, get out there and exercise. Know your limitations and for people that were not physically active pre pregnancy take things slow.
I have been a runner for 5 years now and I started running two weeks after my third c section(with the permission of my doctor) If there are more plans for children in the future exercise will ensure a healthy pregnancy and swift recovery because the muscles will be strong.
Reality is that my body will never be the same but most people are amazed that I have had three kids. I will never fall into the "I had a kid so I am allowed to look like this" trap. It is just an excuse.Any women can do it.
Just in case anyone was wondering I was a single mother with my first two. I did not have the option of my husband or a nanny staying at home while I went to the gym. Fortunately, I had my dad babysit for me and support from a program in my community for single parents. Explore all your options if you are in similar circumstances. There are some women that bounce right back after a c section but for the majority of us we have to make an effort. It is so worth it for example, with regards to my self confidence, mental health and personal relationship.
