My C-Section Recovery Story
With the birth of my first and only child, I had to have a c-section. I was full term, 5 days past my due date. I went into labor while having a check up at my OBGYN.
Ultrasound showed baby in stress as each contraction began. My doctor told me to rush to the hospital, do not go home. I was upset but got there within minutes. After 5 hours in labor, too much stress on baby, my doctor advised c-section.
Recovery was not bad for me. I am a rather large woman, but used to staying busy and on my feet a lot. I was sore, of course, and had to go up stairs all the time as my bedroom was upstairs and the bathroom was downstairs. I was told to not lift anything over 10 lbs. Well, lifting my baby sometimes caused pain. I tried to not bend over too much, and if I had to, I did it very carefully.
I heard horror stories about recovery. I found it bearable, with little to no pain medication. Within 2-3 weeks, I was doing almost my normal work load at home. Up and down stairs without much problem.
The incision was sore, I had to be careful when doing certain activities. I found being active and moving around a lot helped me recover quickly and with little pain. My incision spot was numb for almost a year after the surgery, but I understand that is normal.
